The Employment Help Centres' Bridging Program assists Internationally Trained Individuals move towards licensure/certification and employment in the Niagara Region.

The Bridging Program focuses on 4 specific sectors:

  • Accounting
  • Nursing
  • Teaching
  • Engineering
Accounting, Nursing, Teaching, Engineering


Our Bridging Program is designed for Internationally Trained individuals who intend to pursue professional licensure or certification in Ontario. The following services and supports are provided to help each individual reconnect to his or her profession:

  • Sector-specific certification/licensure support
  • Occupation-specific terminology training and workplace culture workshops
  • One-to-one employment advising
  • Job Placements
  • Mentorship and networking opportunities
  • Assistance with credential assessments and translations of documents

Eligibility:

  • Internationally educated Teachers, Accountants, Engineers and Nurses with direct work experience outside of Canada
  • Completion of a university degree (all of our occupations require a university degree to apply as an internationally trained individual)
  • Usually have a membership or certification from their country in the field that they practice. i.e. A teaching certificate or an engineering license (this is not always the case, so it is recommended that an applicant come in and speak to the coordinator or a Bridge team member).
  • Interested in reconnecting to their profession in Canada by pursuing certification/licensure
  • Conversational English (assessment required)

Workshops

We offer free group workshops that will help you to move toward certification, learn occupational terminology and enhance your workplace skills.

  • Workplace requirements and occupational terminology
  • Canadian culture and communication

Employment Advising

Our Employment Advisors offer the following services:

  • One-to-one employment advising to help you gain a thorough understanding of the Ontario licensing process in your occupation.
  • Liaison with regulatory body to assist you through the certification process.
  • Assistance with credential assessments and language assessments.
  • Assistance with developing your professional resume and cover letter.
  • Help with choosing relevant upgrading courses or programs and aid in finding financial assistance options.
  • Referrals to appropriate services or training to meet certification / licensure requirements.
Mentorship & Job Placements

Mentorship:

Our mentorship program provides an opportunity for Internationally Trained Professionals to meet with a Canadian Professional who is established in their profession. These meetings provide an opportunity to learn about working in the profession in Ontario, receive support and encouragement and networking opportunities. It is also a good opportunity to practice your work-related vocabulary.

Job Placements:

These placements are paid opportunities for our clients to receive training on the work site, and provide evidence to the employer of your skills and experience. These matches are coordinated by a Job Developer for clients / employers who are eligible.
