Position Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance worker provides essential operational and technical support to ensure the physical readiness of the WNAS buildings and grounds. This role is well-suited for a proactive individual who enjoys a mix of hands-on maintenance and logistical coordination for the annual Fair, indoor storage, and year round venue rentals.
Working closely with the Secretary-Treasurer, the Maintenance Worker plays a key role in the safe and reliable operation of the facility, helping to maintain high standards of site presentation and efficient resource management.
Reporting Structure:
This position works in close coordination with the Secretary-Treasurer to manage weekly priorities, project assignments, and performance feedback. The Secretary-Treasurer serves as the primary partner for venue rental requirements and day-to-day facility coordination. To ensure alignment with WNAS’ long-term goals, infrastructure and workload priorities are determined collaboratively with the First Vice-President.
This teamwork ensures that maintenance activities support both immediate operational needs and WNAS’ broader facility vision. In the Secretary-Treasurer’s absence, the Employee coordinates directly with the First Vice-President.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility & Grounds Upkeep:
• Preventative Maintenance – Perform regular inspections and routine maintenance on buildings, barns, and structures to identify and resolve issues before they require costly repairs.
• Grounds keeping – Maintain the aesthetic and functional quality of the property, including lawn care, fencing repairs, and parking area maintenance.
• Waste & Sanitation – Oversee waste management and sanitation logistics.
• Equipment Care – Operate and maintain WNAS-owned machinery, ensuring they are kept in safe, working condition and serviced regularly to extend their lifespan.
Venue Rental Operations:
• Site Access & Tours – Occasionally provide building and site access for prospective renters to conduct tours as coordinated with the Secretary-Treasurer.
• Venue Preparation – Execute the physical setup for rentals based on internal work orders provided by the Secretary-Treasurer (e.g. unlocking buildings, setting up tables/chairs, adjusting HVAC).
• Turnover Management – Assist with the physical transition between events, ensuring the site is cleaned, reset, and secured following a rental.
Volunteer & Resource Management:
• Volunteer Coordination – Monitor the facility workload and initiate calls for volunteer “work bees” as required.
• Cost-Effective Resource Management – Manage the inventory of supplies and prioritize “in-house” repairs to minimize waste and reduce operational costs.
• Vendor Oversight – Supervise external contractors while on-site to ensure work is completed to WNAS standards.
Safety, Compliance & Record-Keeping:
• Policy Development – Collaborate on the development and implementation of health & safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of staff and volunteers.
• Documentation & Logs – Maintain accurate maintenance checklists, equipment service logs, and supply inventories to ensure operational transparency.

Skills & Experience:
Technical & Physical Skills:
• General Trades Proficiency – Practical experience in basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical troubleshooting to handle “in-house” repairs.
• Equipment Operation – Proficiency in operating and performing basic maintenance on groundskeeping equipment
• Physical Stamina – Ability to work outdoors in all ather conditions, stand for extended periods, and life/move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) as required for setup.
• Landscaping Knowledge – Experience in turf management and general groundskeeping to maintain high levels of site presentation.
Logistical & Organizational Skills:
• Project Coordination – Ability to manage multiple priorities, shifting between daily maintenance tasks and long-term project assignments.
• Resource Management – A "cost-conscious" mindset with experience in inventory tracking and identifying the most economical solutions for repairs.
Certifications & Requirements:
• Driver’s License – A valid G-class license (or equivalent) is required for operating vehicles and moving equipment across the property.
• Health & Safety – Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) standards; First Aid/CPR certification is considered a strong asset.
• Flexible Availability – Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, during the peak season of the West Niagara Fair and during significant venue rental periods.
