This program provides financial support to help laid-off workers train for a new career.

Program Overview

Second Career can help you train for a new career at a college or private career college anywhere in Ontario. The knowledgeable and trained staff at the Employment Help Centre can assess your eligibility and suitability for the program based on your work history, education, skills, and interests.

If you qualify, we can provide up to $28,000 to cover the cost of:

  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Living expenses
  • Care for dependents
  • Travel and transportation
  • Disability supports
  • And more

Who Can Apply?

If you were laid-off any time after January 1, 2005, you’re eligible to apply for Second Career, even if you have taken an interim job to make ends meet.

Do You Qualify?

To apply you must be:

  • Laid off from a job in Ontario anytime after 2005;
  • Using a current and marketable resume;
  • Job searching and tracking your applications;
  • Considering a career that is in demand in Ontario.
