The City of Hamilton is currently seeking a Clinical Therapist for their Child & Adolescent Services department. Reporting to the Supervisor, Clinics – CAS, conducts assessments, consultations and therapy with families, individuals and groups. Conducts other services as may be required.
- Provide clinical assessments of families, subsystems and individuals as may be required for therapy or consultation purposes
- Conduct brief and structured therapeutic treatment using intervention techniques to address a wide range of relationship issues
- Assess and treat mental health issues and problems in living, whether cognitive, affective or behavioural, within the context of the family and wider socio-cultural systems
- Conceptualize families' concerns and subsequent intervention strategies including the awareness of and, when appropriate, consultation and advocacy with larger systems such as other social service agencies, schools and correctional services
- Carry a clinical case load adhering to established program benchmarks, which is specific and appropriate to the level of expertise
- Maintain case system recording to meet requirements that reflect the aforementioned level of analysis and intervention
- Manage the co-ordination of services to the assigned children, adolescents and their families which make up the clinicians caseload
- May provide oversight and/or direction to students and/or volunteers
- May be involved in community liaison, lectures, talks and presentations to service clubs, schools, parent groups and community agencies as requested and deemed appropriate in consultation with C&AS Leadership
- Participate in and provide consultation in clinical work group meetings
- Attend and participate in staff and in-service meetings as may be required
- Participate in Clinic, Divisional and/or Departmental sub-committees as appropriate
- Participate in regularly scheduled clinical and administrative supervision sessions with the leadership team and annually take part in written evaluation and goal setting with the leadership team
- To keep abreast of professional developments within own professional field
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions in specific evidence-based modalities as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the duties of this position
- Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational Health and Safety
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting assessments, brief and structured therapy, consultations and counselling and therapy with families, individuals and groups normally acquired through the completion of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field from a recognized University
- Registration and active membership with good standing in professional body e.g. OCSWSSW, CPRO
- Proven experience conducting assessments, brief therapy, consultations and counselling and therapy with families, children and youth
- Demonstrated ability in assessment and interviewing skills, flexibility in adapting to change, interpersonal relationships and case management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision and in relating with a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to relate with all levels of the community
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to relate to peers, individuals, families and groups
- Working knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Highly effective facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
- French and/or multilingual an asset
