St. Luke’s Anglican Church located in Smithville is looking for a student aged 15-30 years old to hire as a summer Gardener & Heritage Building Caretaker. As the position is made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, the candidate must be returning to school in the fall. The position provides up to 35 hours per week for 8 weeks of work in total.
Outside Tasks
Weeks 1-3
- Remove and replace bushes along southwest corner and south side of church building
- Clean up back corner garden
- Wash windows of church and church hall
- Power-wash grave stones
- Power-wash church building
- Fill in low spots in the cemetery and along driveway
- Load pile of trash in back garden
- Clean Bar-B-Ques
Weekly
- Empty trash cans and other waste containers
- Cut grass surrounding church building, church hall, parking lot and grave yard
- Tend to plants surrounding church building
- Weed back corner garden
- Place garden refuse bags curbside for Friday garbage pick-up
Daily
- Perform routine maintenance tasks
Inside Tasks
Weeks 4 & 5
- Wash windows and walls of church and church hall
- Paint church hall walls below wainscoting
Week 6
- Clean and disinfect washrooms and bath fixtures
- Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs
Week 7
- Polish pews and alter accouterments
Week 8
- Clean kitchen appliances and equipment
- Clean out and organize storage shed
Weekly
- Empty trash cans and other waste containers
Daily
- Perform routine maintenance jobs
- Reliable transportation
- Aged 15-30 years of age
- Dependable and reliable
- Able to work independently to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Prior maintenance experience is an asset
