A Sorting Supervisor is required to ensure that goods are sorted efficiently and that the sorting staff are supplied with an ample amount of pallets to sort. Must be able to assist with the forklift and by hand when required and remove the sorted products to the appropriate location. Ensure departmental production targets are met.
- Work with the Operations Manager to plan the sorting of product in the most efficient way to reduce multiple handling of the product and use of floor space
- Oversee the sorting process, ensuring that sorting is accurate, effective and that paper work is filled out properly and accurately at all times
- Relay information to, and work with the Operations Manager, Shipping and Receiving Supervisor and Production Supervisor and other staff to achieve objectives such as output, waste reduction and safety
- Develop cost and waste reductive processes while maximizing productivity and employee satisfaction
- Monitor sorting process standards and implement quality and efficiency control measures
- Monitor the sorting process of pallets and end boards and adjust schedules as needed
- Use a forklift to supply product to the sorting employees to ensure continual performance objective are met
- Transport sorted goods from the work area into the appropriate location, exercising continual efforts to maintain an organized working environment for all
- Track sorting documentation by load to ensure accuracy for accounts payable and inventory. And submit to the Operations Manager
- Report to the Operations Manager on all employees’ status and work performance when required

- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventory levels
- Responsible for opening up the shop and equipment at the beginning of each working day, ensuring that all forklifts and other machinery are available and functioning properly
- Assist with safe and timely loading and unloading trucks as needed
- Assist in sorting pallets and end boards by forklift and by hand as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the use of labour throughout the sorting process
- Address performance issues with employees, provide guidance and oversee training
- Oversee the documentation and ensure accuracy of paperwork
- Assist in the discipline and general review of employees
- Ensure safety standards are followed; encourage a strong safety mindset
- Responsible to supervise, monitor and motivate all employees in the sorting process
- Report all injuries and concerns to the manager immediately
- Work with managers, supervisors and employees to implement the company’s policies and goals
- Train new employees on applicable work instructions, tasks and responsibilities as well as safety procedures
- Adhere to and uphold the following (but not limited to) legislative requirements of a supervisor: Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
- Perform all supervisory responsibilities as listed in the various company policies and procedures
- Report to the Operation Manager all issues with legislation compliance and/or company policies and procedures
- Assist in completing job evaluations for new employees prior to the end of their three-month probationary period of employment and annually thereafter. All performance evaluations will be conducted on an annual basis for all subordinates in the specified evaluation month set forth by the management team
- Previous Supervision experience of 3 to 5 years preferably in a production, manufacturing and/ or shipping and receiving environment
- Has demonstrated success within a supervisory and scheduling role
- Experience in supervising, directing and organizing staff members
- Competent and experienced forklift operator with an up to date forklift certificate
- Familiar with the pallet recycling industry is a definite asset
- Strong ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner
Work Environment/Dynamics:
Constant demand to schedule work flow to achieve the maximum efficiency of personnel. Monitoring quality, quantity and overall performance of sorting staff is required. Continuous change throughout the day is to be expected to meet sorting requirements. The working environment can be extremely hot, cold, dry, wet, noisy, dirty and dusty.
Schedule for Evaluation:
Evaluations of employees will be performed prior to the completion of the first three months of employment and annually thereafter.
