Medical Secretary – #8490 – A
A local Medical Office, practicing family care, is looking for Medical Secretary to join their team on a full time basis.
This position offers full time hours from Monday to Friday, with some evenings and weekends (as required).
- Assist with clerical/administrative support to patients, families, staff and physicians
- Manage doctors daily schedules and templates
- Manage doctor’s patient rosters
- Collecting cash/credit payments for uninsured services
- Independently respond to both verbal and written inquiries
- Interview patients in order to complete forms
- Initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records
- Assist with vacation coverage, ordering supplies, etc.
- Provide IT support to medical professionals
- Manage incoming and outgoing faxes
- Manage daily scanning, both electronic and paper
- Maintains confidentiality at all times
- Present a positive and professional image of the office to all visitors, suppliers, inquiries, and other interactions
- Other duties and projects as required or assigned
- College diploma (medical secretary program or business college equivalent)
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years medical experience in a medical office
- Experience with Telus Solutions Software preferred
- Ability to prioritize and respond to phone calls from patients, hospital, specialists according to medical urgency in a superior professional manner
- Ability to communicate and work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
- Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential
- Previous experience in handling confidential or sensitive information; knowledge of applicable data privacy laws
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering, as well as inventory control of these items
- Able to occasionally lift items as heavy as 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripheral
