Position Summary
Reporting to the CEO/Chief Librarian, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator is a master communicator responsible for marketing and promoting all library programming, services and collections to the community. You are skilled in written and digital communication using various platforms such as social media and the library website. You are proficient in graphic design, basic video editing, web advertising and website updates and monitoring. You enjoy collaborating with co-workers and other community partners, and helping the public discover the library. You apply your fund development skills to strengthen and grow fundraising programs and relationships. Guided by the Library’s Strategic Plan, you work to fulfil the Library’s mission to enrich lives, connect community, and inspire discovery.
Marketing and promotions/Website and Social Media/Communications
- Maintain and enhance Library website; including content creation, content management and website development
- Develop, monitor and regularly maintain the Library’s social media sites and accounts
- Develop and produce promotional material communicating the range and value of Library services, collections and programs, via Library’s social media channels, website and in-house displays
- Design, develop and create engaging digital promotional content and communications including, but not limited to, written messaging, videos and graphics (using smartphone, DSLR camera, apps, graphic design and video editing software) to use on the Library’s social medial platforms and for sharing with external partners
- Design, develop and create physical promotional content and communications including, but not limited to, presentations, newsletters, support materials for events, bookmarks, and brochures/pamphlets, to distribute to the public
- Keep informed of advances and current trends in marketing, technology, internet and social media and make related recommendations for their applications in keeping with the GPL’s strategic goals and objectives
- Support online, in person and hybrid special events, from registration and promotion to staging and post-event evaluation
- Attend programming and special events, and other community events, capturing content for reporting in library newsletter and website
- Create and develop initiatives and campaigns to engage followers on the Library’s social media channels and attract new audiences and sponsors
Fund Development
- Initiate and implement a fund development plan for the Library
- Create associated policies and procedures relating to fund development
- Retain, manage and grow relationships with library donors and sponsors including supporting, identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these individuals and organizations
Public Services
- Provide circulation, reference and readers advisory services and educate library patrons in the use of the catalogue
- Monitor library’s social media platforms for patron activity and address patron questions and comments in a timely manner
- Promote awareness of Library catalogue, databases and online resources and empower library patrons in their use
- Provide first line of IT support to library patrons including instruction and assistance in the use of Internet Access and Media Lab workstations
- Address customer concerns and complaints
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary Library and Information Technician diploma, Fund Development, Marketing and/or Communications diploma, or other relevant discipline
- Experience in marketing, communications and fund development
- Knowledge of website management and maintenance using CMS platforms, and CSS
- At least 1 year of directly related work experience, preferably in a public library setting
- Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends, new technologies and advancements in public libraries, marketing, communications and fund development
- A valid Ontario Driver’s license is required
- Access to a vehicle is a definite asset
