The Shunt Driver & Yard maintenance person in this role, would be loading/unloading trailers to transfer to another trailer for shipment and moving materials from storage trailers to main building. Transferring of materials between storage areas. Delivery of salt, ice, pallets and packaging materials. The working environment is fast-paced and team coordination is important as you are working with many people and different departments. Any other duties as assigned.
Able to effectively communicate verbally and written with other employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
- Performing safe and efficient moves of trailers between different locations
- Drive a shunt truck for pin to pin moves for chassis or chassis with containers
- Back trailers into designated Docks as requested by Production
- Perform other tasks contributing to the smooth operation of the facility
- Pre-operations inspections, operation, and shutdown of all related equipment for efficient and safe operation (i.e., Tractors, trailers, forklifts and counterbalances)
- Receiving process materials and relocating storage trailers
- Receive chemicals, validate paperwork, sign paperwork and deliver paperwork to Receiving Lead-Hands
- Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for product and packaging materials (i.e., product rotations, FIFO procedures)
- General housekeeping and yard maintenance
- Assists with clean up of waste room and removal of waste products
- Maintaining a neat and tidy dock and yard; including but not limited to organizing stacks of pallets and received supplies
- Keep walk ways safe and clean, shoveling and salting of walkways in winter
- Recognize and troubleshoot mechanical issues and communicate problems to Maintenance Supervisor
- Maintain routine communication with the Production Supervisors and Managers regarding the placement of trailers in docks or yard
- Safely operate vehicle and other machinery in a safe and courteous manner
- Complete daily circle checks for the shunt truck and trailer inspections
- Refuel the truck at the end of each day, Plug in trucks as needed
- Ensure trucks and trailers are properly parked at the end of each day
- Participate in educational and training opportunities applicable to the position
- Wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) and hygiene equipment, including but not limited to steel mesh guards, bump cap/hard hat, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, smock, and gloves

Heavy lifting required, pushing/pulling, and bending
Exposure to cold or freezing temperatures
Overtime as required
Environment can be noisy
There are strong odors and raw chicken to be cleaned
