Smithville Home Hardware Building Centre

We currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Small Engine Mechanic for our Rental Department.  The Rental Department is an important part of our business and the ideal candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment accurately and efficiently ensuring our equipment is ready and available.  The candidate will also have strong communication skills and maintain a flow of information regarding the equipment status with our staff to ensure we are able to provide exceptional customer service at all times.

Duties:
  • Inspect, test, maintain and repair our fleet of rental equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, tillers, Bobcat skid steers, excavators
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on all equipment
  • Review work orders, and discuss work to be performed with supervisor
  • Track billable hours and parts used on repairs
  • Provide recommendations and estimates to customers regarding repairs
  • Complete repairs on customer equipment
  • Attend manufacturers training as required
  • Clean and wash equipment
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Perform equipment inspections with customers at time of rental and when rental is returned
  • Other duties will be assigned as necessary
Requirements:
  • Experience in 2 stroke, 4 stroke and diesel engines
  • Physically able to work on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Safety compliant person
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Reliable
  • Adaptable
  • Able to work days and weekends if required
  • Strong familiarity with STIHL equipment is preferred
  • Forklift license is an asset
  • Salary to be determined based on work experience
