Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Deputy Chief Building Official will review plans and inspect buildings under construction to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and the Ontario Building Code. This position acts as the Chief Building Official in their absence, as set out in the Municipal Act, 2001 and other related legislation.
Other duties include, but are not limited to, plans examination, accept and review permit applications, provide information to the public, developers and other customers with respect to general inquiries related to the Building Code, the Town’s Official Plan and other relevant municipal by-laws and programs mentoring other members in the department.
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma and/or degree in Architectural or Civil Engineering Technology
- Certified as a Building Code Official (CBCO)
- Successful completion of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Examinations for legal processes for the Chief Building Official
- Successful completion of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Examinations for House, Small, Large and Complex Buildings, Building Services, Building Structural and Plumbing All Buildings
- Minimum of five (5) years related work experience in a supervisory role
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Excellent customer service skills
- Effective attention to detail and high degree of accuracy, analytical thinking and planning skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and CityView software.
In addition to a dynamic and fast-paced team environment, we offer an excellent benefit package and pension plan. The annual salary range, based on a 35-hour work week, is $74,698 - $84,074* (effective April 1, 2021).
