Township of West Lincoln

The Finance Student will play an integral role at the Township of West Lincoln, providing administrative and accounting support within the Finance Department, in particular with modernization special projects. The successful candidate will obtain valuable work experience and gain transferrable skills in many areas of municipal finance, data processing and business administration.

This position will be based out of the Township office. Normal office hours are 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This is a contract position, working 35 hours/week.

Duties:
  • Assist with the implementation of new modernization software, including a water customer service and billing portal
  • Provide customer support in conjunction with the implementation of the above software, both verbally and electronically
  • Prepare financial documentation using Excel and other databases
  • Support the research, development, and updating of financial policies
  • Perform general clerical duties such as filing, archiving, copying, and scanning
  • Maintain confidentiality of all actions, records and discussions undertaken during duties
  • Work safely and in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations and within the safe work procedures and directives as established by the Township
Requirements:
  • Preference given to those enrolled in or recent graduate of a post-secondary business program
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and courteously with members of the public and staff, in person, by telephone or electronically
  • Previous experience working in a finance department environment is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated technological proficiency with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail, with good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite software, with an emphasis on Excel
  • Ability to work independently and under limited supervision at times
