VRE Systems is a family-owned manufacturing company providing products and services to the retail garden centre, horticultural, greenhouse and agricultural industries. We manufacture products such as various types of curtain systems, roll up walls, monorail systems, fabrics, transportation carts, as well as food and pharmaceutical products.

We are currently seeking a Full-time Logistics & Shipping Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will effectively oversee the day-to-day operations of the assembly, warehousing, and distribution department including shipping, receiving, warehouse inventory, product assembly and preparation, and distribution of products. This individual will ensure a smooth and consistent daily operation, providing support and direction to the team, and both internal and external customers. A strong work ethic, attention to detail and positive attitude is a must!

Duties:

Warehouse

  • Oversee day-to-day operations in shipping/receiving and logistics; management of inventory control procedures, including monitoring/updates on product status
  • Provide problem solving support in any cases of missing or inaccurate documents, shipments and deliveries; communication on updates to internal teams as required
  • Ensures Quality Assurance processes/policies are maintained and followed appropriately; proper product inspection, control, storage and disposition
  • Make recommendations for warehouse improvements to improve efficiency
  • Ensure all material handling equipment is inspected and maintained regularly
  • Work collaboratively with other teams such as Sales and Production to meet and satisfy customer orders accurately
  • Ensures that production input materials are delivered/relocated to the appropriate facilities in accordance with production requirements
  • Manages inventory control procedures for warehoused items (production supplies, hard goods) including location transfers, cycle counts, year-end inventory, etc.
  • Monitors and optimizes warehouse space utilization

Transportation

  • Works collaboratively with Sales and Production to ensure customer orders are distributed in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner
  • Management of any 3rd party carrier or equipment contracts related to transportation or material handling
  • Oversees the shipment of all outgoing customer orders, including movement of product between facilities, load building, etc.
  • Ensures that transportation arrangements meet defined standards for meeting plant health and customer quality requirements
  • Oversees relationships with Canadian and US transportation carriers to negotiate favourable rates
  • Ensures that transportation arrangements meet export regulations and duty requirements
  • Monitors and analyzes transportation costs and performance to identify trends/issues and manage costs
  • Supervise warehouse, yard, and shipping staff by providing support, identifying and administering training opportunities, and follow-ups as required
  • Ensure proper processes are being followed in regards to Health & Safety, policies and procedures; aligns with VRE Systems standards
  • Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring implementation and adherence to Health & Safety, WSIB and WHMIS regulations
  • Manages scheduling, attendance, overtime, and administer performance evaluations in accordance with VRE policies and procedures; document as required
  • Participates in the development of departmental budget
  • Oversees relationships with Canadian and US transportation carriers to negotiate favourable rates
  • Ensures that transportation arrangements meet export regulations and duty requirements
  • Monitors and analyzes transportation costs and performance to identify trends/issues and manage costs

Management

  • Supervise warehouse, yard, and shipping staff by providing support, identifying and administering training opportunities, and follow-ups as required

Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business Administration, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management
  • 5 years’ working experience in a related field; shipping/receiving, warehousing and inventory control and logistics in a manufacturing setting
  • 5 years’ experience in a Supervisory capacity
  • Strong working knowledge of warehouse processes including planning, shipping, warehouse management & inventory systems
  • Strong computer skills in MS-Office, E2 and SAP is preferred
  • Knowledgeable in point of entry and duty principles for border crossing (HS codes, Duty draw back)
  • Strong communications skills in both written and verbal; able to work collaboratively within a team and Supervisor dynamic
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Valid Forklift Licence
  • Knowledge of VRE Systems products and services is considered an asset
  • Strong organization and time management skills to fulfill job requirements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Work Conditions/Environment:

  • Physically capable: sit/stand for long periods and lift up to 50lbs
  • Effectively work in a noisy and busy setting with frequent interruptions
