The Lead Hand – Warehouse & Inventory is responsible for ensuring that the company has an organized, well maintained and optimal inventory level to meet customer orders in addition to a well designed efficient and effective warehouse system that meets the brand and operational expectations. The Lead Hand – Warehouse & Inventory works in tandem with the Lead Hand – Shipping/Receiving/Logistics to help create and maintain an environment that encourages and accomplishes an accurate inventory, in quantities and locations, and delivers on great internal and external customer service.
Reports to: Operations Manager
Outcome Expectations:
- Materials are delivered accurately and on time every time
- Staff are picking materials accurately and efficiently so that shipments can meet deadlines
- Potential issues are communicated immediately with the right person and solutions are brought forward to allow the team to manage customer expectations
- Issues that could create potential bottlenecks are resolved and recommendations and/or actions are taken to improve the process flow
- The safety and wellbeing of staff is maintained at all times
- The professional brand and image of the company is reflected in the warehouse at all times
- The warehouse is organized in a way that maximizes the space and accommodates the work flow in the most efficient way
- Inventory is accurately accounted for in quantities and location
- Cycle counting is done to ensure inventory is accurate
- Movement of inventory is timely for receipts and returns
- Staging for shipments ensures loading and customer pickups can be handled promptly and effectively
- Prompt attention is given to urgent orders to facilitate deliveries to worksites where sub-contractors are waiting for material to proceed
- Clear, concise, and effective communication with team members ensures orders are processed as needed and adjustment can be made for unexpected circumstances
- Rules and safety standards are followed when operating any equipment and facilitating deliveries and pick-ups with visiting truck drivers
- Proactive thinking, problem solving and idea sharing results in the department functioning at its best
- Actively engaging with the warehouse team to meet objectives
- Contributing to other duties as required
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- Secondary School Diploma
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a warehouse environment
- Forklift Operator Certificate required with a minimum of 3 years experience
