NATURE & SCOPE:
As the Camp and Community Regional Supervisor, you combine relevant education and experience with your energetic personality to provide leadership to staff teams that focus on engagement, fun, and excitement for all children and youth who choose to join us. You are as comfortable in your office researching trends in child and youth recreational programming and planning meaningful programs, as you are inspiring your staff team and leading activities at one of the 20 youth outreach program sites that run each week during the school year. You understand the value of play, role modelling, relationship building, and positive behaviour change, and are committed to providing safe spaces that children and youth look forward to attending. In this role, you also provide senior leadership support to our Day Camp programs, coaching a staff team and ensuring the delivery of innovative, safe, and fun programs for children at 12 sites over the summer months.
Contract position. Full time, 40 hours per week
Regular schedule for Community Programs include afternoon/evenings during the school year. Regular hours for Day Camp are daytime, Monday to Friday.
Some events (i.e. training, staff meetings) may take place on weekends/evenings.
Flexibility is required.
- Assist the Director of Community Programs to plan and deliver child and youth focused, community- based initiatives across the Niagara Region, including the Youth Action and YMCA Beyond the Bell™ programs.
- Provide leadership for a staff team of approximately 32, including recruitment, training, scheduling, coaching and development. Participate in direct delivery when the need arises.
- Engage with parents or guardians to discuss and resolve complex situations.
- Evaluate program success and ensure program quality and consistency through regular site visits, staff evaluation tools, and participant and parent surveys.
- Contribute to marketing and promotional planning, including administration of the department social media sites.
- Adhere to departmental budgets and monitor revenue and expenses on an ongoing basis to ensure targets are met.
- Transition to a leadership role in YMCA Day Camps, supporting the Day Camp Director, assisting with pre-camp planning and in the summer months assuming all responsibilities assigned to that role such as multi-site support, coaching large staff teams, curriculum development, managing partner relationships, conflict resolution and ensuring program quality.
- Other duties to support the work of the Association as the need arises.
- A strong educational background with a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreational Leadership, Education, Child Studies, Physical Education, or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years related work experience in direct program delivery for children or youth. Experience in youth recreational drop-in programs, community outreach and/or Day Camp is an asset. Experience working with children or youth with special needs or other considerations an asset.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising a staff team, with strong judgement and decision-making skills, and a demonstrated ability to coach and motivate others.
- Excellent organization and analytic skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility, with the ability to work independently, while prioritizing and managing multiple tasks with various deadlines.
- Adept at the use of social media and an understanding of its role in youth and staff engagement.
- Good knowledge of relevant business technology (Excel, Word, Outlook, Zoom, Survey Monkey, Camp Brain etc).
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required upon hiring and must be issued for the YMCA of Niagara.
- Current certifications in Standard First Aid/CPR C [within 2 years from date of issue].
- The ability to participate in physical activity and lifting when required.
- Reliable transportation throughout the Niagara Region is required.
