YMCA Day Camp – Multiple Sites
Home Base: Walker Family YMCA, St. Catharines
Travel throughout Niagara Region will be required
Starting wage: $18.94-22.74 per hour plus YMCA membership
Full-time contract, starting March 2018 to end of September 2018
40 hours per week – day, evening and weekend availability required

Duties:
  • To support the planning, implementation and delivery of Children and Youth Day Camp programs during the summer throughout the Niagara Region
  • Responsible for quality program delivery up to 13 sites (including YMCA branches, schools and outdoor sites) and up to 900 campers per week
  • Work as part of the camp leadership team to develop, manage and lead the Camp Staff to deliver excellent programs throughout the Niagara Region
  • Support camp planning, communication, promotions and marketing initiatives
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, coaching, development and discipline of camp staff and volunteers
  • Develop and foster relationships and collaboration with a variety of community partners
  • Support camp outcomes and the implementation of feedback tools with campers, staff and parents
  • Work with the Manager to implement strategies and systems to minimize risk to campers and staff
  • Work with the Manager to implement strategies and systems to minimize risk to campers and staff and increase parent, staff and camper satisfaction
  • Support with the training of Membership Staff on Camp products and programs and the implementation of Camp Registration
  • Establish relationships with camp parents and ensure timely communication regarding parent concerns and questions
  • Exercise strong decision making and judgement on a continual basis when working through situations that arise
  • Work with the camp leadership team to take action on poor staff performance and implement performance reviews
  • Support Supervisors in assessing conflict situations and exercise good judgment in recommending solutions
  • Role model excellent customer service
  • Other duties as required
Requirements:
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Recreational Leadership, Child Studies or related field
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience in Day or residential camping
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Experience working with children with special needs, unique considerations or behavioural challenges an asset
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Proven knowledge of and experience facilitating high quality recreational programs
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and motivate others
  • Current standard first aid and CPR-(C) certification
  • Current Clear Criminal Records Check with Venerable Sector Search (within 1 year)
  • Class G driver’s licence and reliable transportation to travel between camp sites
